El Médano is a coastal town in the south of Tenerife belonging to the municipality of Granadilla de Abona. One of its characteristics is its intense wind that blows most of the year. This makes it a perfect place for windsurfers and kitesurfers. Its attraction is that it is not a place overcrowded by tourism and that it has a wonderful beach next to the town square.

El Médano beach is a beach of toasted sand, shallow and moderate waves, which has all the services and facilities of an urban beach. In addition, there are plenty of bars and restaurants just 20 metres from the sandy beach. You can also walk a little further to the beach of La Jaquita, where you will feel very comfortable.

The dune is ideal for water sports. As the wind is guaranteed most of the year, Leocadio Machado beach has become a mecca for windsurfing, kitesurfing and surfing. Many people come from all over the world to learn or improve their skills in these sports.

Every year El Médano hosts the prestigious PWA World Cup Tenerife, one of the best windsurfing events in the world. The competition takes place on the Cabezo beach.

The truth is that this coastal town has charm, it is a pleasure to walk through its streets from the small beach to the square and see the different cultures from all over the world come together in El Médano. In the main square every Wednesday morning there is a Farmer's Market where you can buy local produce at reasonable prices. There is also a clothes market on Saturday mornings.

Next to the village you can go hiking on Montaña Bocinegro and Montaña Roja and enjoy the view and the landscape from the top of the two mountains.

It should be noted that the name of the village comes from the word médano, synonymous with dune, which are the natural elements in the beach area.
